Bear Attack!! (postscript)

We called The Colorado Parks and Wildlife office to report the bear intrusion. I didn’t realize, but when a bear enters a home, they consider it a threat and are legally required to attempt to capture it and euthanize it. We didn’t really want this to happen, but the cat was now out of the bag. An officer came right out and set a bear trap. He advised they would leave it over the weekend. If they couldn’t catch the bear, the trap would then be removed.

Well, after three days, we hadn’t caught a bear and the trap was removed. I don’t think anyone wanted very much to capture the bear. I toyed with adding bacon grease to the bait, but realized that I didn't really want to be successful in killing a bear that we had inadvertently baited into entering our home. We have video of the bear coming around and poking around, everywhere but the trap.

So happy ending - the bear is still doing bear things, and we are no longer doing bear baiting things.
