Mt. Shavano
The shakedown trip for the new camping trailer took us to Mt. Shavano, just west of Salina, CO. We set up basecamp Wednesday evening, less than 1/2 mile from the trailhead. After resting up Thursday, we headed up the mountain around 4:30am Friday morning.
After walking nearly straight up for over four miles, I finally summited. The trail was very rocky and steep, few, if any, switchbacks. And, once we left tree line, we were attacked by 40 - 50 mph gusts. Not great, but the scenery made up for it. No matter how many of these we climb, it is still amazing and humbling. Plus, the welcoming committee when I arrived back at the trailhead was second to none.
