Getting Started With The MF

So, I dove into the new Lego project with a little apprehension. It is such a cool, intricate and involved set that I didn’t want to just plow through it. So I went slowly, exploring the set and all the extra, thoughtful touches that Lego included to make this set truly special.

First was the packaging itself. Since this is an “Ultimate Collectors Series” set, there is the classy black box with plenty of pictures and copy teasing the amazing experience that is waiting behind just a few thin sheets of cardboard.

Inside the main box

Inside the main box, there are four separate boxes containing the individual bags of Legos themselves and the instruction book. The boxes containing the Legos, each have a different quote from Episode IV along with some beautiful graphics of the ship itself.

The Instruction Book

Novel is more like it - 494 pages of 16.5” X 11.5” full color glory. This baby has to weigh close to three pounds

Inside the four boxes are 17 bags of Legos, each containing a separate stage of the build. Actually, there are many more than 17 bags. Some of the stages contained four or five bags. At the beginning of each stage, the book shows what the finished stage will look like when completed. The steps are easy to follow and the large pages allow a lot of detailed drawings.

I’m can’t wait to get started on this bad boy, and because I’m 62, retired and have serious impulse control issues, there is probably not a lot things that will get in my way. I’ll try to document things as I go, because nothing is more fun to read about than a grown ass man playing with building blocks.
