Five Star Trail: Youngwood

Five Star Trail: Youngwood

While I’m in Pennsylvania for the next two months, I thought I’d try as many walking trails as I could as I wind through the Keystone state. Trail number twelve is another piece of Pennsylvania’s amazing Rails to Trails system known as The Five Star Trail.

The short section of the Five Star Trail that I walked

The Five Star Trail is an eight mile long trail along the Southwestern Pennsylvania Railroad corridor. This corridor is an active railroad and is one of the few in Pennsylvania. In fact, a new 25 year lease was signed in 2021 between the railroad and the Trail.

The start of the section I walked

The part I walked is actually the last 1 3/4 miles of the trail. I would have walked more of the trail, however, it was around 53 degrees and cloudy when I walked it in a short sleeved shirt. Also, I had a meeting in nearby Greensburg that I needed to set up for.

The non-negotiable end of the trail

I was a little surprise and how the trail ended. It just dead ends at a creek that meanders along side. The trail itself seems fairly popular and is in good shape. Next time I’ll see more of it.
